233 hard working, dedicated, reliable volunteers of all ages, worked 4300 hours in 2008, and travelled 13,584 miles to provide 82,398 pounds of fresh produce to the needy. That much produce would fill two tractor trailers and still have a ton of vegetables left over! 82,398 pounds of produce served 66,000 meals at soup kitchens and shelters and food pantries. Our volunteers harvested or transported these fresh fruits and vegetables donated by 45 farmers and other food suppliers. 5 of our volunteers have earned a Fields to Families Volunteer T-shirt for performing 40 hours of volunteer service!
Because of our volunteers and donors, we have been blessed in 2008 with the privilege of providing substance to 24 agencies that feed the hungry. Since we are an all volunteer agency, we also appreciate the businesses that have donated goods and services and the individuals who have made monetary donations by check or through the website.
We look forward to 2009 when these 233 volunteers, and perhaps 233 more volunteers will join Fields to Families to experience the gratification of providing sustenance to those less fortunate. Our new ‘hands on’ nutrition program has begun and we have a few programs ready to be presented and several more in the works. We encourage family participation. About one third of our volunteers are under the age of 18. If you are not already a volunteer and would like to be one, please fill out a volunteer application on our website and join our Fields to Families family.
Kudos to our Volunteers and Donors
